POLICY
The public science lab engages administration and regulators through research & reflect formats that build sustained, trustworthy exchange and co-laborative work towards better policy outcomes.
Regulatory Science Lab
The knowledge base for regulatory action is commonly focused on legal and economic expertise. The anticipatory capacities of the social sciences as well as their ability to understand societal effects of interventions in a social-ecologically differentiated manner will be integrated in an effort to pluralise the regulatory knowledge base with a particular focus on emerging technologies and fields of significant uncertainty and complexity. In cooperation with the TUM ThinkTank and the Max Planck Institute (MPI) for Innovation and Competition, we develop formats that combine interdisciplinary research within regulatory activities with co-laborative reflection to improve regulatory outcomes.
Ethical Data Initiative (EDI)
Combining the expertise in the public science lab and TUM’s ThinkTank, the Ethical Data Initiative (EDI) is a major transnational effort in responsible and publicly engaged data stewardship and ethical AI, focusing on fostering education, policy and research tools. Currently developing a Data Glossary, bringing everyday experience examples to bear on abstract concepts concerning data use; and Data Stories, a series of videos illustrating not only the challenges of data use but also fruitful ways of fostering responsible practice.

Open Science Studies
Bringing together EU Commission and UN with major international science and research organisations, as well as bottom-up research initiatives in various low-resourced locations around the world (incl. Ghana, Greece, Brazil, India), the Open Science Studies initiative aims to provide evidence and engaged spaces for shaping open policies and communication pathways for the future of science.
