The Public Science Lab is hosted by the Science, Technology and Society (STS) Department at the Technical University of Munich (TUM). The lab brings together researchers from various disciplines to study how science and technology shape society and how societal perspectives influence research and innovation.

Professor of Philosophy and History of Science, specializing in Open Science, data infrastructures, and the epistemology of research practices.

Prof. Dr. Jörg Niewöhner

Professor of Anthropology of Science and Technology & STS Department Head, focusing on human-environment relations and developments in the life sciences.

Prof. Dr. Anne Rademacher

Professor of Sustainable Urban Environments, examining processes of social-ecological change  in the context of urban transformations.

Dr. Desirée Hetzel

Postdoc at the Chair of Anthropology of Science and Technology, interested in new dialogues between science, art and the public in the context of climate-related water issues.

Dr. Elis Jones

Postdoc at the chair of History and Philosophy of Science and Technology, focusing on how science produces different forms of value, and how it is influenced by the organisms and environments it engages with.

The TUM School of Social Sciences and Technology brings together international researchers from the fields of governanceeducation, and science and technology studies. Through its departments, the School offers a unique reimagination of technology-focused social sciences with a commitment to the public interest, in order to address some of the world’s biggest challenges.

TUM Think Tank

The TUM Think Tank at the Munich School of Politics and Public Policy drives societal and political change by bridging theory and practice. Leveraging TUM’s advancements,  it serves as a learning platform to build bridges between social sciences and technical disciplines and develop innovative and actionable ideas in areas like digital transformation, mobility, health, and sustainability.

TUM Public Engagement

TUM demonstrates its commitment to public engagement through various initiatives that aim to connect science and society. By organizing public talks, citizen science projects, school collaborations, and interactive exhibitions, TUM foster inclusive spaces of knowledge exchange that can empower communities to actively engage with research and innovation.
